Life on the farm is always busy.
With over 10 hectares of Avocado trees planted plus a large orchard and our berry patch, there is always lots to do around the farm.
Avocado season runs from September through to the end of March/April, while the stone fruit in the orchard is ready to be picked in Summer. Our new Berry patch consists of Blueberries, Raspberries and Jostaberries. While berries are usually a Summer fruit, we have planted an Autumn fruiting variety, so we can offer berries to our visitors for longer periods. The patch was only planted last year, and we have been busy taking care of it so the plants grow up nice and healthy. While the Blueberries will take a few years to start producing fruit, the Raspberries gave us a nice little crop this year which we sold in punnets in our Cellar Door. Once the patch has established itself we will look into letting customers come and pick the fruit, so watch this space!
When our various fruit trees stop fruiting, it doesn’t mean the work stops! The trees need to be cared for to ensure that they stay healthy and keep producing yummy fruit in years to come. Whether its pruning the trees back or weeding and keeping the grass down by mowing, there is always something that needs to be done. And don’t forget, farm work happens regardless of the weather!
